The National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) was established in 1981 through the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation Act 1981 (Amendment 1984) Act 244 (Amendment of Act A589). FINAS commenced operations on November 1, 1981 under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Malaysia. From October 16, 1986, FINAS was placed under the Ministry of Information.
