Effective from 1st February 1979, the Municipal Council and Local Councils were incorporated under an administration of the Pontian Ridge Council through Government Gazette J.P.U 1261 in the same Gazette which explained the boundaries of the Pontian District Council area with a total area of 2687 acres including its branches. The entire Pontian District Council area is governed under the powers conferred in Act 171 (Local Government Act 1976) by not altering the original boundaries of the Municipal Council and Local Assemblies.
