The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) was officially established on 1st. January 1997. Prior to upgrading the Municipality, MPKj is known as the Hulu Langat District Council which has been in operation since the 1st. January 1986 under Act 171, Local Government Act 1976. Its administrative area covers Mukim of Kajang, Mukim Cheras, Mukim Semenyih, Mukim Beranang & Mukim of Hulu Langat.
