In 1951, it was upgraded to the Town Council with the enforcement of the Local Authorities Election Ordinance 1950 to 31.12.1970. On 1.1.1977, through the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171), it became a Local Government under the name of the Northern Segamat District Council. On November 30, 2000, the name of the Segamat Utara District Council was changed to Segamat District Council.
