It is formed from the combination of Nine (9) local councils namely Kulai, Senai, Kelapa Sawit, Seelong, Saleng, Sengkang, Ayer Bemban, Sedenak and Bukit Batu. Later, the Kulai District Council was upgraded to the name of the Kulai Municipal Council on 21 April 2004.
