The establishment of the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) began with the directive of the Cabinet in July 1997 asking the Ministry of Agriculture to state the Selangor State Government to study the proposal to set up a body to manage rivers and water resources in an integrated manner by taking the Sungai Selangor as a pioneer project and Sungai " Thames "in the United Kingdom as the model of execution.
